Can you imagine how Italian food would taste without herbs? Try to imagine eating pesto minus basil or eating Italian sausage without the fennel seeds. Not to mention the huge role that garlic plays. Actually, when just thinking of Italian food you start to think about all the mouth watering tastes and aromas of fresh herbs like garlic, oregano, basil, rosemary and others. This is the main reason why you should consider having an Italian herb garden if you love Italian food.

It is not only easy to start growing an Italian herb garden but it is also as easy to use them as well. You could grow your herbs inside your kitchen in a container. This will let you use the fresh herbs right from the plant in your cooking. Another thing is that once you start growing these plants, as you continue to harvest them, they continue to grow and therefore you will get quite a lot of herbs from the plants that you grow.

One thing that you should ensure that you know about is the conditions in which each herb that you choose grows. The methods with which the herbs need to be trimmed, nurtured or planted differ depending on the herb. Let us get into a little more detail about three particular herbs, rosemary, oregano and parsley.

Rosemary is a well known Italian herb. It is great as it helps in improving your garden along with making your food tasty. It sprouts blue flowers and grows in large shrubs. The flowers from the plant attract bees and these help with your garden too. The only thing to note with rosemary is that even though it is a perennial plant, it is highly sensitive to frost.

Oregano is great to grow, not only because it is great for cooking but also because it makes your garden look beautiful as well. You should only harvest oregano after it fully matures. It is at this time that the herb tastes the best and has the most flavor. One way for you to know that the plant has matured completely is to search for the flowers. It sprouts beautiful purple flowers which can be used as indicators as to when you should harvest.

Parsley was initially intended to be used as a breath freshener. These herbs were traditionally served on small plates after meals. Nowadays, this tradition continues but it is used instead as a garnish. When you are growing parsley you must be certain as to how to grow the herb as even experienced gardeners often have trouble growing the herb.

The above mentioned plants are just a few of the herbs that you can grow if you have an Italian herb garden. All the hard work that you put into growing herbs is worth it when you see the end results. There is no reason for you to not try. It is simple enough for anyone to try, as long as you have done your research.
